Not even a furious downpour in the early hours of 15th November could dampen our spirits for too long. The sun soon decided to bathe Mumbai in warm rays that soaked up all the unfortunate puddles and had the D’Monte Park Recreation Centre (DPRC) looking festive and welcoming again! The Pune Gourmet Club was set to take Mumbai by storm with the first ever Bandra Wine Tasting Festival under the Celebrate Bandra umbrella!
Eleven wineries participated in the festival, showcasing a range of new and more established wines, including an impressive collection of Reserve wines. Colourful gazebos provided cover for well appointed stalls, with artfully arranged wine bottles drawing visitors in droves. For most visitors the experience was a novel one and PGC members at the Reception counter spent a lot of time explaining the concept to curious wine enthusiasts.
Participants included 10 wineries from India - Four Seasons, Good Earth, Indage Vintners, Pernod Ricard, Sula, Valle de Vin, Vallone, Vinsura, Vintage, York and Riona from Sangli who showcased 13 Italian wines and The Wine Club. The morning started in a leisurely fashion, with visitors lingering at stalls to interact with representatives of the wineries, as they sampled the different varietals. As the day wore on and the sun obligingly slipped behind some clouds, the number of people streaming into DPRC increased considerably and the winery reps barely had time to breathe as they handed out seemingly endless tasting pours. More than 60 wines were available for tasting not including oak matured 12 reserves.
