The Enoteca Experience: Wine and Dine
Puneites will have the opportunity to learn more about wine at a series of gourmet meals at local restaurants over the next month
In Italy a wine shop that offers customers a chance to taste wine and learn more about their provenance is known as an ‘enoteca’. Small quantities of wine are sold at a reasonable fee, allowing customers to decide which they might like to buy at a later date. Many of them also serve a choice of snacks that goes with the wine. Seagram’s Nine Hills and DNA in association with the Pune Gourmet Club are bringing the enoteca experience to Pune through a series of six wine dinners and lunches over the next month.
“This series is a run up to the Pune Wine Tasting Festival to be held on December 19-20,” says B. Shankaranarayan of the Pune Gourmet Club. “Six restaurants will recreate the enoteca experience over the next month, offering gourmet meals ranging from Oriental to Italian, accompanied by wine from Nine Hills. These will also feature wine appreciation talks and introduce diners to the concept of wine tasting and wine and food pairing. The idea is to create a memorable culinary and wine experience that is also educative.”
Adds Darius Chichgur, Manager Wines of Seagram’s, “An enoteca is more like a ‘wine library’ where a visitor or tourist can source information about wines in the area. In a similar vein, apart from serving our wines, including Nine Hills Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon, we will provide diners a chance to learn more about them. We are also pleased to be able to introduce wine enthusiasts to our Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon Reserves. The Reserve Shiraz won the Gold Medal at the recently held Sommelier India Wine Challenge.”
The first of these enoteca experiences will be held at Oriental restaurant Silk Route, which is holding an Indonesian lunch on 29th November. The menu features Bitter Gourd Rings Stuffed With Chicken/Tofu, and Steamed Mushroom Wraps (starters); Asinan Jakarta (a hot, salty, sour and sweet fruit and vegetable salad); Balinese Marinated Grilled Fish, Balinese Lamb Chops, Young Jackfruit Curry with Steamed Rice, Stir Fried Cabbage with Red Pepper Paste (entrées): and Black Rice Pudding (dessert).
Coming up soon are an Italian meal at Post 91, a Pan Asian meal at Trikaya, and other surprises that will delight those with a palate for good food and wine.
